Family Portrait Pics

It’s emails like this that make a photographers day….at least they make this photographers day!

I want you to know that the picture you took of my family was the BEST gift we could ever give my mom. The tears in her eyes and the expression on her face was priceless. My extended family was so thrilled that THEY want to have a family picture done. We will probably shoot for some time around the Bar Mitzvah though may be sooner. It truly was a work of art and worth every penny.

Thanks so much again!! You made a 70 year young mom very happy. J

We had the opportunity to photograph the wedding of the couple who are in the middle and back of the group a few years back.  They’re both super awesome and work in NYC as TV Producers on some of my favorites shows on the History Channel.

Association of Bridal Consultants Event

This was a fun industry event PBT participated in recently – some great ideas here gang!

Really creative table-settings, beautiful floral – and check out those mini-wedding cakes! As you can see, the food was also beautiful and Lynn at Feast Your Eyes went above and beyond with a special vegan dish for me – and it was AMAZING! The venue space is fantastic – check out those light fixtures! I also love the unique texture of this green tablecloth – very cool. Everyone did such a great job!

Longwood Gardens Engagement Session

Last weekend after our “snowstorm” I headed down the Longwood Gardens to meet with Christen and Tom to do their engagement session.  We were actually very much looking forward to doing a snowy engagement session, but the further south I drove the less and less snow there.  By the time I got to Longwood Gardens there was hardly any snow to speak of!  Anyhow, we had a great time walking around and taking photos all over the grounds as well as inside the conservatory.  Note to self “next time you do a winter engagement session at Longwood Gardens, first start shooting inside the conservatory and then go outside!”  Since all my camera gear was cold from being outside for so long, as soon as I stepped inside everything fogged up!

Since good lenses have lots of glass in them, and because glass is good at not changing temperature quickly, it took about 20 minutes before I could actually shoot without getting a completely hazy photo.  As soon as I’d wipe the lens it’d fog up again.  Anyhow, once my gear adjusted we were able to capture lots of beautiful images, especially since Christen and Tom were so comfortable in front of the camera. You’ll find a few of my favorites below, although there are lots more.  Perhaps I’ll add some more at a later date… in the meantime enjoy!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Why Bring a Hanger to Your Wedding?

I know, that’s a puzzling question.  But there are so many things to think about when it comes to planning your perfect wedding day.  Some of them obvious and some of them not so much.  I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve heard a bride say “Oh I didn’t think of that”, on their wedding day… and of course at that point it’s typically too late.

Why Bring a Hanger to Your Wedding?

Why Bring a Hanger to Your Wedding?

One important thing to remember is a hanger.  Why?  Because you’ll want a nice hanger to put your dress on while it’s being photographed.  Regardless of how much money you’ve spent on your wedding dress, they typically still come with a fairly ugly plastic hanger with alot of cardboard attached to it.  Great for keeping the dresses shape, but not so pretty in photographs.  So remember to bring a pretty one.

Wedding Moments that Speak Volumes

As a wedding photographer, I’m all about special moments that contain emotion…even if there’s not a smile involved.  Why is it so important to find a wedding photographer who looks for wedding “moments” and not just smiles?  Because smiles can be faked..but moments, that’s where the real emotions lay.  We take pride in the ability to capture these in photos so that, not only the couples we photograph can relive these special moments, but also their relatives, friends and children who were not there can capture and feel the moments with them.

A  bunch of little moments…a look, a glance, a touch… can really tell a big story, and that’s what is important.  Anyone can take a photo of people smiling, but not just anyone is on the lookout for moments like these:

Have you asked your wedding photographer how he plans to capture the emotion of your big day?

5 Important Things Brides Forget To Do

Over the last 14 months you’ve been to nine dress shops searching for that perfect wedding dress, tasted seven delightfully decadent wedding cakes hoping that one yells out, “buy me,” sniffed 200 wedding flowers and interviewed over three dozen wedding vendors in hopes that your wedding is dubbed “Wedding of the Year.”

But wait!  Now it’s your wedding day and you forgot to…..

You’ve spent way too much time preparing for the perfect wedding day to say those words.   Don’t arrive unprepared in any way.  Here are 5 important things brides usually forget to do that will mean a world of difference if forgotten:

  • Make Post-Wedding Plans:  No, we don’t mean the honeymoon.  Believe me, you can count on the groom to have discussed this in detail with you.  We’re talking about right after the wedding.  Do you want the final dance to be it?  Or do you want to continue the party at a local hot spot?  Make arrangements for post-wedding fun.
  •  Pack an Overnight Bag:  Most newly married couples spend their wedding night somewhere other than home.  If this is you then don’t forget to have someone drop off an overnight bag for you in the room.  When you go to brush your teeth you’ll be glad that you remembered to do this trivial task.
  •  Pick Someone to Bring Wedding Gifts Home For You:  In all the hustle and bustle the last thing you want is to have your wedding gifts left at the reception site.  Designate someone to take these home for you so that you don’t have a car full of presents all night.
  • Decorate the “other” areas: Of course, no guest will walk out of your wedding if the bathrooms and cocktail bar are left bare. But with all the energy that’s put into dressing up the reception and ceremony spaces, you might want to put in the small extra effort to give these spots the décor they deserve.  A few candles will work.
  • Confirm: Call and make sure that each wedding vendor knows exactly when they’re suppose to arrive.  Do this one week before your wedding.  That way if for some strange reason your florist has the wrong date marked on their calendar you have enough time to rectify the situation.  Send out agendas to your bridesmaids and groomsmen, too—how else will they know what time you’re taking photos? If someone in the bridal party is notorious for being late, start their schedule half an hour early just in case.

How to Choose a Wedding Party

That is the million dollar question when it comes to wedding planning.  If you have a large family, several close friends and are marrying into a large family as well, then you have your work cut out for you.

Here are a few tips in preparing your list of wedding party attendants and bridesmaids:

  • Prioritize what’s important to you -  Is it important that all of your siblings are included?  What about your spouse’s siblings?  If there are too many of them, why not consider cutting off your list at a certain age?  That will, hopefully, limit your selection.
  • Responsible parties only please - You may have three brothers and two sisters, but are some more mature and responsible than others?  Perhaps that should be a determining factor as to whom will be included.  You don’t want the drama queen sister or the party animal brother ruining your nuptials.
  • Lifestyle Requirements - Planning a wedding takes a lot of time.  Perhaps choosing attendants and bridesmaids who can 1) afford to purchase their wedding attire, and 2) afford to put in the time your rehearsal and parties will require is the smart choice.  If you know of a friend or family member who’s currently working three jobs just to pay their rent, perhaps they aren’t able to take on the responsibility required to be in a wedding at this time.
